Laser Skin Tightening and Photo Rejuvenation

HOW DOES THE LASER SKIN TIGHTENING
TREATMENT WORK?

The GentleYag laser treatment tightens the skin by
transferring heat to the deepest layers of the skin.
The non-ablative laser creates thermal injury below
the epidermis resulting in a healing response to the
upper dermis. This process then causes the dwelling
fibroblasts to stimulate the precursors of collagen,
elastin, and other proteins. By activating enough of
your own collagen source, wrinkles and sagging skin
can diminish within weeks after the treatment.

WHAT CAN SKIN TIGHTENING DO FOR ME?
Many areas of the body can benefit from GentleYag
Laser skin tightening. It can be used to tighten skin
on the face and neck, improve shallow acne scars,
and help to reduce those unsightly stretch marks,
both red and white.  This technique can also show
improvements in loose skin left after liposuction in
the arms, knees, legs and especially in the abdomen.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT DURING
TREATMENT?

Treatment will take place in a private treatment
room. You will wear safety eyewear to protect your
eyes from the laser light. Your practitioner will
guide the laser to the treatment areas with a small
handpiece. Each laser pulse may be preceded by a
short pulse of cooling spray. A treatment could take
as little as a few minutes to as long as an hour,
depending on the area and condition being treated.

DOES IT HURT?
Some patients may feel a slight discomfort with each
laser pulse, sometimes described as the snapping of
a rubber band on the skin. This discomfort resolves
in several seconds and is minimized by Candela’s
DCD cooling. For some patients, a topical anesthetic
will be reccomended prior to treatment. Be sure to
discuss this with your Laser Technician.

HOW MANY TREATMENT SESSIONS
WILL I NEED?

In most cases we reccomend a session of 3 treatment to jumpstart the body's process of
collagen remodeling andrebuilding of elastin. These 3
sessions will be set 4 weeks apart and take anywhere
from 30 mins to 2 hours each. As a common rule we
strongly reccomend a follow-up treatment 6
months after your 3rd treatment. To maintain
results we reccomend a follow-up treatment once
every six months after that.

HOW DO I PREPARE FOR TREATMENT?
Your skin should be thoroughly cleaned and dried,
removing any makeup, creams, oils, topical
anesthetics or skin tanning products before laser
treatment. The intended treatment area should
not be exposed to sunlight or tanning booth light for
14 days prior to treatment.
***DO NOT USE ANY ALCOHOL BASED PRODUCTS
(MOISTURIZERS, SHAVING CREAMS, PERFUMES,
ECT..) ON THE TREATMENT AREA 24 HOURS PRIOR
TO YOUR TREATMENT TO PREVENT
COMPLICATIONS.

WHAT CAN I EXPECT AFTER TREATMENT?
In most cases clients will experience a mild redness
which subsides within hours to days. Makeup
may be used after treatment to cover redness.
Most clients do not experience much swelling at all,
however, swelling is a possibility. A cool compress,
gel pack or soothing cream may be applied for
comfort following your treatment. Any redness or
swelling should resolve within a few hours. If
redness or swelling llast longer DO NOT PANIC it will
resolve within 24-48 hours.

WHAT PRECAUTIONS SHOULD I TAKE
AFTER TREATMENT?

After laser treatment, prevent sun exposure by
applying sunblock (SPF 30 or above). In the first
few days after treatment, don’t scrub or rinse the
treated areas with abrasive skin cleansers. Your
practitioner may advise additional precautions.

ARE THERE SIDE EFFECTS?
Your risks are minimal. Side effects may include
redness, swelling, hyperpigmentation,
hypopigmentation, blistering, and purpura (a laser
bruise), in the treated area—these usually do
not last more than a few days. Permanent side effects
are rare. Many of these can be avoided by
staying out of the sun before and after your
treatments. We strongly reccomend that you refrain
from ANY sun exposure throughout the duration of
your treatments. Alcohol based products should
not be used 24 hours prior to your treatment to
prevent skin damage. Be sure to discuss potential
side effects with your Laser Technician.
